We pitch an old world northern Rhone classic 100% Syrah against a new world Sonoma Syrah. This is going to be a close one,
In the New world corner - Syrah Estate Frick 2003, Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma County.
In the Old world corner - Ferraton La Matiniere Crozes Hermitage 2009, N Rhone.
Will Frick's age win over Ferraton's youth or will the fruitiness of the sun-drenched Californian grapes be too sweet to compete with the tarter more mature vines of Northern Rhone? Will the rustic more personal touch of a 7.77 acre holding give that "je ne sais quoi" that the larger Ferraton family lands are lacking or will the centuries of Rhone tradition be just too much of a challenge to the new world newbie?
Only you can decide.
