BLIND BORDEAUX BATTLE! AT LAST!
BARRAMUNDAYS, WINE & VINYL
Bordeaux Blind Tasting!
Tonight we have three Bordeaux to taste, at three different price points. No matter which way you vote, your glass of Bordeaux will cost only $8- even if it normally costs twice as much! Who will win this most exciting Blind Battle? Will it be a Right Bank blend with Merlot dominating, or a Cab Contender from the Left Bank?
Paired with cheese from our friends at Saxelby's Cheesemongers in the Essex Market, and tunes by DJ Ilmo!

PINOT NOIR WAR: THREE CONTENDERS
BARRAMUNDAYS, WINE & VINYL
"God made Cabernet Sauvignon whereas the devil made Pinot noir."-André Tchelistcheff, Winemaker
It seems no other grape variety has the mystique of Pinot Noir. This may be due to the fact that the grape tends to be somewhat fragile and difficult to cultivate, while producing some of the finest and most popular wines in the world. Pinot Noir has an extremely broad range of expression, from the lighter, earthier, more restrained classic Burgundies, to fruit forward, full, and deeper colored wines from California or New Zealand.
When last this noble grape met itself on the field of battle, the lines were clear: Old World vs New World. We put a typical red from Burgundy, Domaine Parent 2008, up against a Pinot Noir from Oregon (Jigsaw Pinot Noir, 2009). In the end, France was the victor, but tonight we are bringing in 2 heavyweights to challenge Bourgogne's title: a red Sancerre from the Loire Valley, and a Pinot Noir from the Anderson Valley in California. This should be three very different expressions of terrior.
Bourgogne, Domaine Parent 2008
Our winner from a few months back, can it keep the title? Silky fruit with earth and mineral notes..
Sancerre Rouge, Domaine Sautereau 2010
Only one fifth of the grapes planted in Sancerre are red, and all are Pinot Noir. Of course this region is known primarily for its crisp herbaceous whites, but some fine reds and roses are produced here as well. In fact prior to 1860, when phylloxera wiped out vast amounts of vineyards in the area, Sancerre and its neighboring regions grew mostly Pinot Noir and Gamay.
Husch Vineyards, Anderson Valley 2007
A fine Pinot Noir from California that no doubt conveys the Anderson Valley's unique, unspoiled charm.
Please join us tonight to taste these amazing wines..
